Two phases.
One seamless journey.

Successful fundoplication begins with precise diagnosis. Dr. Pizzera's approach combines a complete pre-operative workup with the gold-standard laparoscopic technique.

01

Oesophageal manometry

Measures the pressure and function of the oesophageal muscles and lower oesophageal sphincter — confirming whether fundoplication is the right surgical approach and ruling out motility disorders.

02

pH & impedance measurement

24-hour monitoring to document the actual extent and pattern of acid reflux. This objective data is essential for surgical planning and confirms the diagnosis beyond doubt.

03

Gastroscopy

Direct visualisation of the oesophagus, stomach, and duodenum. Identifies any mucosal damage, hiatal hernia, or additional pathology. Results available within 24 hours.

04

Laparoscopic fundoplication

Through 3–4 small keyhole incisions, the fundus of the stomach is wrapped around the lower oesophagus to restore the natural anti-reflux barrier. Hospital stay 1–2 nights at Privatklinikum Hansa Graz.

05

Follow-up & discharge

Post-operative care and discharge documentation provided in English. Remote follow-up consultations by video at 2 and 6 weeks — no need to return to Austria.

Your questions,
answered honestly.

Do I need the diagnostic workup if I already have results?

If you have recent manometry, pH-metry, and gastroscopy reports (within 12 months), Dr. Pizzera can review these and may not require a repeat workup. Please send your existing reports when enquiring.

Can diagnostics and surgery be done in one trip?

Yes — if scheduling allows, the diagnostic workup can be performed a few days before surgery during the same visit. Most international patients prefer this to minimise travel. We plan the itinerary together.

Nissen or Toupet — which procedure will I have?

The choice between a full (Nissen) and partial (Toupet) wrap is made based on your manometry results. Dr. Pizzera discusses this with you personally before surgery — there are no surprises on the day.

What if I have complications after returning home?

Dr. Pizzera is reachable directly by phone and email. You will receive a full operative report to share with your local GP. Serious complications after laparoscopic fundoplication are rare with experienced surgeons.

Is the €9,000 figure really all-inclusive for the surgery?

Yes — it covers the operation, all Privatklinikum Hansa fees, anaesthesia, and 1–2 night inpatient stay. The final figure may vary slightly depending on specific surgical findings. You receive a written quote before booking.

Can UK private insurers reimburse treatment in Austria?

Some policies include international treatment. We provide fully itemised invoices and operative reports in English. Check your policy's "treatment abroad" clause and contact your insurer before travelling.

How long must I stay in Graz after surgery?

Most patients stay 1–2 nights in hospital, then 1–2 additional nights in Graz before flying home. We recommend not flying within 48 hours of discharge. We provide hotel recommendations nearby.

Will the procedure cure my reflux permanently?

Laparoscopic fundoplication has a long-term success rate of over 90% for correctly selected patients — which is why the diagnostic workup is so important. Dr. Pizzera will only recommend surgery if your results support it.

Stop managing reflux.
Start living without it.
